Debert?

PEI to Debert, Nova Scotia

146.4 miles
Puff clouds

Sadly, we left PEI this morning. Maggie and I both loved this island and could have spent several days more here. In looking at the map I just inserted, I see it needs a little explanation. The bold green line is the planned route, which I enter in the Microsoft Streets & Trips GPS program I use. It is overlaid with blue as I drive. When the blue line veers off, as it does on this one, it means I took an alternate route.

PEI land is so rich . . . we were impressed again with the quality of the crops – so much hay production for this late in the season!

We considered taking a ferry from PEI to Nova Scotia, rather than the recommended route back over the Confederation Bridge. After all, we’d done that already. But we couldn’t get a reservation, and decided it was just a little too risky to make the drive to the other end of the island on the chance we could get on, then have to make the really long drive around, if we missed it. Turns out they had a couple extra spots, but, oh well…

Our backtracking took us back over the Bridge, thru a corner of New Brunswick to Aulac, and into Nova Scotia near Amherst, then thru the middle of what some people call the head of the eagle (shape of the island), to Debert. The tour directions were worthless, but we found it without too much trouble. (go 10 minutes past the church….huh?). Good location in the center of the island for touring.

The folks at the Elm River Park are absolutely delightful and nice, which is a good thing, since I wouldn’t recommend the park otherwise. It took an act of God and lots of blocks to get my coach level – lousy parking areas.

One thing we found interesting, and never found an answer for, is that it’s illegal to import honey bees to Nova Scotia
